STEP BY STEP
Xoloitzcuintles to continue with same philosophy, next game up

TIJUANA (May 14, 2017) –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles reached the
semifinals for the second time in its history. It will face Tigres UNAL,
the defending champion in a home-and-home series.

But no matter how important the moment is, coach Miguel Herrera’s team
will remain with the same team motto as throughout the season. Take it
step-by-step, next game up.

The Xoloitzcuintles took care of its previous step by beating Monarcas
Morelia 2-0 in the second leg of the quarterfinals, winning the series
2-1. It was a task Juan Carlos Nuñez and Ignacio Malcorra believed the
team could tae care of at home.

“We are very happy. I think the team knew that we were going to turn
things around here at home,” Nuñez said. “This was a tough score we
wanted to get but we had confidence in every one of our teammates. I
think this is great work and it brings joy to all of us.”

Malcorra echoed Nuñez thoughts.

“It was very important to win here after the fact that we lost 1-0 over
there (Morelia), it was very important to win here,” Malcorra said. “I
think the team played a great match, it was in good situations and had
many chances at goal and it was solid on defense. We had it controlled
for most of the game. This makes us happy and we are glad we were able
to advance.”

Advancing means facing Tigres a team that is coming off a 6-1 aggregate
win against cross-town rival Monterrey in the quarterfinals.

“Any team in the playoffs will be difficult, any opponent,” Nuñez said
of Tigres. “But this team has a goal, to be champion. For that, you must
play with everything. We now face Tigres in a difficult series and we
will play in two tough games but we are confident the team will do a
good job.”

Malcorra has no doubt the team will continue with its motto and that it
could help in the next series.

“We must remain calm and think about Tigres, a tough opponent that has
very good players with many stars but we do our thing,” Malcorra said.
“If we play the way we played today we will do fine.”

Club Tijuana will begin preparing for Tigres with a morning practice
Monday before traveling to Monterrey later in the week for the first
leg. The second leg will be next weekend at Estadio Caliente.
