For a shot at history
Xoloitzcuintles face a deficit in the LIGA MX quarterfinals

TIJUANA (May 10, 2019) –Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles traveled to Leon
Friday afternoon as it heads into the second leg of its LIGA MX
quarterfinals series against Club Leon.

The Xoloitzcuintles enter the 2019 Clausura playoff match Saturday
night at Estadio Nou Camp trailing 3-1 in the aggregate of the
home-and-home series. Coach Oscar Pareja’s team is looking to add to its
history with a chance to overcome the deficit against the Panzas Verdes.

The team traveled to central Mexico after a morning training session at
Estadio Caliente. Pareja took his players through final details before
facing a long-time rival that dates to the time both teams were in
Mexico’s second division, the Liga de Ascenso. There was a playoff
series in that category, a 2011 Clausura semifinals win by Club Tijuana.

These teams have faced each other in the post season several times in
the first division with Club Tijuana also winning in the semifinals in
the 2012 Apertura.

“These are rivals that know each other well after facing each other
frequently,” Pareja said after his team arrived in Leon. “There aren’t
many secrets. We will try to neutralize what they are capable of doing
and try to set forth our game so that we can do what we can.”

The team was sent off from Estadio Caliente with a rally on its way to
the bus that headed to the airport. The Club Tijuana supporter sections
“La Masakr3” and “Los Cachorros” showed up to send the team off to Leon.
The Xolo Mayor and Xolo Girls also took part of the rally that had fans
beating drums and using different air instruments while others waved
team flags. It’s a setting for a chance at a historic comeback and the
chance to tell another story in Mexican soccer.
