TIJUANA (Sept.16 2018) – Diego Cocca was blunt. The Club Tijuana
Xoloitzcuintles coach thought his team could have done more against
Pachuca CF Sturday night. The 1-0 win against the visiting Tuzos was a
satisfying task for the Argentine coach but he said his team should have
scored more.

“We need more. But Pachuca is a team that closes up spaces and
pressures the lines,” Cocca said during his post-match news conference.
“We knew that their two central defenders were strong and it is
difficult to hold on to the ball in the nine position. We were lucky to
score when the half had just started. It came on a well-played and
executed play.”

The scoring play came on a quick play early in the second half. Erick
“Cubo” Torres slid to reach an Ignacio Rivero low-rolling pass at the
top of the six-yard box. The Club Tijuana striker got enough of the ball
to send it off the left post and into the net. It was a play Cocca liked
to see as it helped his team to three more points in the 2018 Apertura
standings and extends a win streak to three games.

“Cubo (Torres) had a great game,” Cocca said. “We always have
confidence in him and he knew he would have to wait for an opportunity.
I’ve always said that when a player comes out, the door opens up for
another. They have to show what they can do and Cubo did just that. It’s
good because he puts me in a good spot.”

The Xoloitzcuintles were in a good spot after Pachuca’s Franco Jara was
sent off with a red card for stepping on Rivero on a dangerous tackle.
Pachuca finished with nine men when Stevin Barreiro was also sent off.
He was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time. Pachuca would then
begin to give up more space after the first red card.

“The team then lowered that pressure, logically it had to and it never
responded with everything,” Cocca said. “But we kept an order, the
intensity and our idea. So, I am happy for the work and commitment that
gave this team this prize.”

Club Tijuana will now face Cruz Azul in Copa MX action in the Round of
16 playoffs Tuesday Sept. 25 at Estadio Caliente. It will resume LIGA MX
play Saturday Sept. 29 at Monterrey in a Week 11 match.
